What a Luxscapes patio includes
- Setting out and levelling, with a gentle fall so rain runs away from the house
- Excavation and a compacted sub-base laid in layers, the part that decides how long a patio lasts
- Slabs laid on a full mortar bed with neat, consistent joints and clean cuts at edges and drain covers
- Steps, edging and retaining where the ground changes level
- Old paving lifted and taken away where needed, agreed in your quote
Choosing your paving
Natural stone
Sandstone and similar stone has natural variation in colour and texture. A riven finish gives good grip underfoot.
Porcelain
Very low maintenance, frost resistant and clean-lined. See our porcelain paving page.
Concrete paving
A good value choice, available in a wide range of sizes and finishes.
Getting the levels right
Paving must sit below the damp-proof course of the house, and water must fall away from it. We check both before a single slab is laid. We also plan where doors open, where furniture will sit and how the patio meets the lawn or border, so it feels part of the garden rather than added to it.
Most ground-level patios do not need planning permission. Raised patios and large paved areas at the front of a house can have rules, so we check before we start.
